G'Day All,

Mate at work has a current model 130 TD5, we are tying to figure out the easiest way to wire up some driving lights for it and were hoping someone had done this already and could point us in the right direction.

In particular, did you run the wiring through the firewall?

Where did you draw the power from?

How did you wire the switch on the dash?

Any help appreciated

We have the Cd Manual for the vehicle, shows how to fit almost any accessory, other than driving lights

Regards

Rolande

Rolande,

If you don't get an answer on EO, post your question to the Landrover forums on www.aulro.com in the "technical" section. There are quite a few people with Defenders.

Take the dash out (4 screws) run wire through grommet in fire wall, pick up hi beam signal behind dash (blue/white wire) power supply direct from alternator terminal easy!

G'day Rolande

Power supply ... heavy (8sq.mm)? straight from starter motor, good then as main supply for all sorts of leccie gizmos. Ran that to circuit breaker mounted on drivers side inner guard, between shock tower and clutch master cylinder.

Good mounting points for numerous relays immediately above/beside this .. mudguard bolts.

Std circuit breakers also mount neatly on top of clutch master cylinder cover plate, same bolt hole centres.

I didn't bother with switch, on light circuit but ran wire through bonnet release cable grommet for fridge relay switch. Used additional OEM rear window switch for this as mounts neatly in one of the spare holes. Not poisonously expensive either ... surprise LOL.

Tap into driver's side high beam wire behind light to supply power to relay for spotties.

Hint .... it's very fiddly and a right mongrel getting the wiring up into the dash. Remove radio and job much much easier, but will still need stiff (coathanger) wire.

Cover all assorted wiring with split corrugated ducting and cable tie to various original bits and pieces for neat protected finish.

Cheers

G'Day Rosco,

Knew you would have an answer for me. :))

Thanks, will draw up plan with my mate and attack it one week-end.

He has already fitted another ARB type switch to match the one for his compressor which is alread fitted.

Thanks again

Hi Rolande. I did my 110 Td5 not long ago and put the wire through the bulkhead via a blanked off hole on the L/H side of the vehicle. Took the dash apart and fiddled the wire through and put it to an extra original No. 2 light switch I bought from the Main Stealer. Cost about $26.00.
This switch fits into one of the blank places on the L/H side console so looks quite good. Otherwise the wiring was the same as the diagram you can download from this site.
The only prob. I had with this was getting the switch to light up when I switched on the lights.
No doubt I'll get around to having another look one day.

Alan

Apparently all you need to do is run an extra earth to the switch. I had the same problem and it was done when I had the winch fitted.

Lasted all of about 2 weeks ..... :-((

Ive just had a set wire into my 05 extreme by Opposite Lock. Dont know how they wired it up, although they put the switch on the rhs of the steering wheel column. Might save opening up the dash..

G'Day Bob,

If you don't mind me asking, did they use a ready made loom?
How much did they charge?

Fitting costs were $132 which included the wiring. I dont think they used a ready made loom, ( I would have to pop the hood for that and it raining outside....) But the job was well done along with their other work they did. The switch is in a good loction easy to reach
